Introducing Seoul Summer Vacation Spots such as Naksan Park and Bukchon Hanok Village in ‘K-Pop Demon Hunters’
One day, while waiting for the release of Squid Game Season 3, a K-pop animation was uploaded on Netflix. It was a movie I watched with my family and laughed a lot, called ‘K-Pop Demon Hunters’. At first, the fact that it was the ‘first global K-pop idol animation’ was refreshing.
While watching the movie, I was impressed by the detailed depiction of Seoul's places, food, and habits, which I usually didn't pay much attention to because I was used to them. The K-POP OST throughout the movie was also pleasant to listen to. The thought, “Isn't this an animation for teenagers?” completely changed after the viewing.
I visited the ‘K-Pop Demon Hunters Background Tour’ as one of the ‘Summer Vacation Spots to Enjoy in the City’ introduced by the Seoul Metropolitan Government. I was surprised by the midsummer heat, and even more surprised by the enthusiasm of domestic and foreign tourists who came out despite the heat.
“Why did Lumi and Jinwoo have to climb so high to have a conversation?” The words of a couple climbing the steep stairs to Naksan Park are memorable. But if you go up there yourself, you'll know. The view of downtown Seoul overlooking the Hanyangdoseong-gil Fortress is very beautiful. The sunset paints the sky red, and the yellow lights illuminating the fortress path bring the night atmosphere to its peak.

Although there is no large-scale performance hall as in the movie, the view of Namsan Tower makes you imagine what it would be like if there was one
I had the opportunity to listen to a lecture by Jeong Deok-hyun, a popular culture critic, recently. He said, “Although it may not be comforting, the message this animation wants to convey is in Jinwoo's line, ‘I don't think you made a mistake.’” It means to accept yourself as you are and that it's okay to live as you are. This also shares a deep context with BTS's message of “Love Yourself”.

It is an era where even the famous places, food, and lifestyles of Seoul are becoming global content. Culture is said to flow from the top down. I wondered if the wish of Mr. Baekbeom Kim Gu, who hoped for the most beautiful country in the world through the power of culture, is being realized in today's Republic of Korea.
