Google Maps is a globally used app, but its accuracy is somewhat lower in Korea, causing many travelers difficulty in navigation.
In contrast, Korea's local map apps boast high accuracy and user-friendliness. However, their limitation to Korean language use resulted in low accessibility for foreigners.
But recently, Naver Map has added three languages, gaining popularity among foreign tourists!
I'll show you how to easily change the language settings on Naver Map.
This is the Naver Map app's home screen.
While settings usually change according to the user's system language, if it's set to Korean, tap the menu in the upper left corner.
Tap the gear-shaped settings icon.
Click the language system settings and change it to your desired language.
This is how the language changes, making Naver Map easily usable for foreigners! Click "GO" and enter your destination for quick, shortest-route directions.
I searched for directions to Hongdae.
The routes are shown in order of fastest time, and the time required for subways, buses, and walking are all displayed in English, making it convenient.
In addition to directions, there's an advantage in being able to check stores in your current location or areas you want to visit using the buttons below the search bar, including cafes, restaurants, convenience stores, hospitals, and pharmacies. While some items haven't been translated yet, over 80% of the content is available in foreign languages.
Addresses and business hours are provided in foreign languages, and reviews and food photos are also collected in one place, making it very convenient to find information about stores.
This is how it looks for Chinese and Japanese.
While some parts are in English, it's not difficult and seems sufficient for travelers to use.
Previously, Google Maps had many inconveniences when finding directions or stores in Korea. With Naver Map app addressing these shortcomings, we hope foreign tourists can enjoy even richer Korean tourism!
