It was the day we got together for a friend's birthday. We had a Hanbok rental reservation at Gyeongbokgung Palace, but canceled it because of the sudden cold weather. However, the weather was unexpectedly nice on the day, so we decided to wear Hanboks again.
Hanboknam Premium
We originally planned to use Hanboknam Gyeongbokgung branch, but when we visited around 1 PM on a weekend, there were long queues for hairstyling and returns... There were so many people inside the store that we were overwhelmed. At that moment, a staff member recommended the Premium branch next door, which was relatively less crowded, so we went there.
Hanboknam Premium in Gyeongbokgung Palace is located in the alleyway near exits 3, 3-1, and 4 of Gyeongbokgung Station.
The Premium branch is definitely more expensive than the Gyeongbokgung branch of Hanboknam, but it includes bag and shoe rentals, as well as hairstyling, at no extra cost.
We rented Hanboks for 3 hours, which was plenty of time. One person in our group had to leave their ID at the counter.
Hanboknam Premium in Gyeongbokgung Palace also offers a snap photo shoot course with a photographer. When we visited, quite a few people were using the snap photo service.
1. Pay at the counter and receive a locker key.
2. Choose the Hanbok you want to wear.
3. Change clothes and store your belongings in the locker.
4. Get your hair styled.
Hanboknam Premium also has wedding Hanbok sets available.
Gradient "kkang-kang" skirts and "gal-lae" skirts are also available, but when I tried to wear a "gal-lae" skirt because of its pretty color, there was an additional cost of 30,000 won... The "kkang-kang" skirt also cost an additional 30,000 won.. I gave up and chose a different skirt.
Fortunately, even the Hanbok skirts without additional charges were gorgeous and came in beautiful colors, thanks to the Premium service. You can find pretty skirts without extra charges!
The Jeogori (jacket) corner where all the Jeogoris are gathered.
At Hanboknam Premium, it's recommended to choose the skirt first and then select a Jeogori that matches it. The staff members kindly recommend skirts and Jeogoris that would go well together.
The skirt fit well, and I was able to wear a smaller size Jeogori than I expected. When I was changing into the Hanbok, the staff helped me comfortably, which was nice.
After changing into the Hanbok, I got my hair styled. Without any extra charges, they did a great job styling my hair into a half-updo, bun, braid, etc., whatever style I wanted.
At Hanboknam Premium, shoe rentals are also available at no extra charge, but they didn't have my size and I thought they would be uncomfortable, so I wore the shoes I came in.
Bag rentals are also free, which was convenient for carrying small items, but the condition of the bags was really bad. Some were stained and dirty, and others had torn linings with lots of loose threads.
For your information, Gyeongbokgung Palace allows free entry to those wearing Hanboks without a separate entrance fee.
The bags were in poor condition, but overall, I was satisfied with the hairstyling and the colors and designs of the Hanboks. My friends and I took lots of pictures and had a great time exploring Gyeongbokgung Palace.
I saw that Hanboknam was having a review event when I returned the Hanboks, but I didn't participate because it seemed like too much trouble.
The Premium branch, which is slightly more expensive, was less crowded, making it more comfortable and allowing us to choose our Hanboks leisurely.
