This is the famous "붕어빵" (fish-shaped pastry) shop in Gwangjang Market that always has a long queue. I finally managed to visit during a break, as the line is always too long. They're open from 12PM to 5PM daily, closed on Mondays.
It's a shame I always missed it because they close in the evenings ㅠ
The location of Gwangjang Market's Chonggakne Bungeoppang is at the Nammun (South Gate) entrance!
The average wait time is under 20 minutes, but if a lot of pizza "붕어빵" (fish-shaped pastries) are bought, the wait can suddenly become much longer.
They bake the "붕어빵" (fish-shaped pastries) at three different places on both sides, and the owner is constantly making them without a break. Watching them make the pizza "붕어빵" (fish-shaped pastries), sweet potato cream, etc., the sheer volume was amazing!
And the prices are reasonable.
Check the menu below for pricing information.
- Handmade "Bungeoppang" prices:
- Pizza "Bungeoppang": 2000 won
- Sweet Potato Cream Cheese: 2000 won
- Red Bean Cream Cheese: 2000 won
- Red Bean & Walnut: 1500 won
- Custard Cream: 1500 won
They cost 1500-2000 won, but they're large and plentiful, so one "Bungeoppang" per person is plenty as a snack.
We ate one pizza "Bungeoppang" on the spot, and took home Sweet Potato Cream Cheese and Custard Cream.
The total cost was 4500 won!
If you think 4500 won for three "Bungeoppang" is expensive, take a look at the 10-won bread next door, then come back and look at Chonggakne "Bungeoppang" again. You'll realize how reasonable and delicious it is.
Chonggakne "Bungeoppang" in Gwangjang Market is definitely a must-try.
This is the pizza "Bungeoppang".
