Pildong Myeonok, a Michelin-recommended Pyongyang naengmyeon (cold noodle) restaurant in Seoul, is very famous for its Pyongyang naengmyeon.
I went there with my mother, who visited Korea last week, the day after we took a Han River cruise.
Our hotel was the Myeongdong Milliore Hotel. The price was reasonable, and my mother and I had a great 2-night, 3-day stay. (I booked through Agoda)
Exterior
There was a waiting line at 2 PM on Saturday.
However, since they operate on two floors, the turnover rate was fast. We waited about 15 minutes before being seated!
There is parking for about 6 cars next to the Pildong Myeonok building, but the spaces were often unavailable, so we used the public parking lot across the street. Public parking costs 2,000 won for 30 minutes. Japanese visitors renting cars should prepare parking fees in cash.
They don't use a waiting list; you just wait in line and are guided to a table.
Pildong Myeonok has consistently received Michelin recognition from 2017 to 2024. With such good reviews, it was a place I was really looking forward to visiting 👀

2nd Floor
The first floor was full, so we were seated on the second floor.
The second floor was spacious and had many tables!

The menu includes naengmyeon, bibim, onmyeon, dumplings, manduguk, jeyuk, and suyuk. I ordered naengmyeon, bibim, and jepssi mandu. ✔️
Many people ordered the jeyuk, which is served cold. I'll have to try that next time!
Warm onnyuksu (broth), pickled radish, and baechukimchi (white kimchi) are served first.
Being used to the broth of Hamhung naengmyeon, the onnyuksu tasted bland to me; it was very similar to congee. It's like a light, easily drinkable Korean congee!
- Naengmyeon (cold noodles) 15,000 won
- Bibim (spicy cold noodles) 15,000 won
- Jepssi Mandu (plate dumplings) 15,000 won
Naengmyeon (Cold Noodles)
The naengmyeon I'd been wanting to try at Pildong Myeonok.
The food came out quickly.
It's a clear broth with plenty of chili flakes.
In Korea, they cut it with scissors
When I first tasted the broth, the subtle meaty flavor was charming and addictive.
It was light, yet kept me wanting more!
When eaten with the noodles, the high buckwheat content made the buckwheat flavor quite strong, obscuring the meaty flavor of the broth. But when tasted separately, I could appreciate the full flavor!
Bibim (Spicy Cold Noodles)
My mother ordered the bibim, which tasted similar to Hamhung naengmyeon, but it wasn't spicy or stimulating; it had a light and refreshing taste. Pyongyang naengmyeon beginners might also like the bibim!
Jepssi Mandu (Plate Dumplings)
The plate dumplings are also famous at Pildong Myeonok.
Six dumplings with thick wrappers are served.
My Mother and I's Review
The dumplings were light and savory, and very delicious.
Those used to the strong flavors of commercially available dumplings might initially think, "Huh?", but the more you eat them, the more you'll appreciate their savory flavor.
There's a wait, as expected for a popular restaurant, but the turnover is fast!
If you're passing through Pildong, Jung-gu, Seoul, you absolutely must try it!
