How to Use the Incheon Airport Express Train (AREX)
How to check discounts, travel time, and schedules
There are various ways to get to the airport, but I mainly use the Incheon Airport "Express Train" because it's convenient to travel from Seoul Station. I don't have to worry about traffic jams, it's fast, and it's cheaper than the airport limousine bus.
It's faster than the All-stop Airport Railroad that stops at all stations, and you can even reserve your seat like on the KTX!
✔ Travel Time
- Seoul Station ~ Incheon Airport Terminal 1 (43 minutes)
- Seoul Station ~ Incheon Airport Terminal 2 (51 minutes)
✔ Fare (Based on Korea)
- Train fare: \9,500 KRW (Adult) 👉🏻 \7,400 KRW with discount
1. Timetable
You can check the timetable on the AREX Airport Railroad Express Train website. As of November 2024, it operates as follows. Based on departure from Seoul Station, the route is Seoul Station → Incheon Airport Terminal 1 → Incheon Airport Terminal 2, so check the top timetable in the image below.
I usually book my train ticket in real-time while traveling to Seoul Station or going to the express train boarding gate at Incheon Airport. Even without a reservation, there are usually many seats available, and seat selection is possible.
2. Fare and Discount Methods
In Korea, the train fare is \9,500 KRW for adults, but from what I've found, it seems that the cheapest option for Japanese people is booking through creatrip. I booked through creatrip when I went to the Maldives and also for my recent trip to Bangkok; it seems to be a page with constant discounts.
👉🏻 \984 JPY with discount (approximately 20% discount)
3. Seat Recommendation
The train has a total of 6 cars, and it seemed that the front and back cars had power outlets. On our way there, we sat in 1A/B of car 1 and there were outlets, and on our return trip, we sat in 1C/D of car 2 and also found outlets.
Also, the front and back rows are close to the entrance where you can store your luggage, making it convenient to move around.
Me, charging...
4. Free Bottled Water Service on the Express Train
This was my first time using this service, but they provide free bottled water on the express train. While it's announced, you can also ask a train attendant for a small bottle of water. (They carry a bag of bottled water!)
To be exact, my partner was in a rush to buy a shower filter at Seoul Station that day and ran around sweating profusely, so we asked for a bottle of water because we were so thirsty.
