Hwaseong Haenggung is a representative attraction that you must visit when you go to Suwon.
It is a historical place that contains the filial piety and reform spirit of King Jeongjo of Joseon, and a place where you can feel the grandeur of the architecture and the beauty of the neat hanok at the same time.
The daytime view is also great, but I visited with a Korean friend during the Suwon Hwaseong Night Opening period.
When night falls, the quiet Haenggung is filled with bright lights and colorful images, and the Suwon Hwaseong Media Art Show unfolds, showing a completely different charm.
📆 Operating Dates: May 3, 2025 ~ November 2, 2025
⏰ Business hours: Every Friday to Sunday, including public holidays
18:00 ~ 21:30
Originally, Hwaseong Haenggung closes at 6 p.m., but during the Suwon Hwaseong Night Opening period, it is open until 9:30 p.m., so you can enjoy the tranquil Suwon night view.
The admission fee is the same as during the day, 2,000 won for adults, 1,500 won for soldiers and teenagers, and the same fare for elementary school students.
Nowadays, you don't have to buy paper tickets at the ticket office, and you can pay with a transportation card at the entrance!
I live in Korea, so it's convenient to buy tickets, but it can be inconvenient for those coming from Japan, and because it's not a place to stay long, I recommend buying a tour ticket that is linked to other tourist attractions.
In the fall, the Suwon Hwaseong Festival period overlaps, and a variety of programs and performances are prepared, so you can fully enjoy the festival atmosphere along with the night view.
The time when the sky is dyed red right after sunset and the lights are just turned on is the most beautiful!
The Suwon Hwaseong Media Art Show performance is a large-scale media art festival that started in 2021, and has reinterpreted the dreams and vision of King Jeongjo against the backdrop of the world heritage Suwon Hwaseong with various lights.
This year, Season 5 Saebit Hyangyeon, which completes the 5-year journey of light, will be held.
In this season, not only the large-scale media art using Suwon Hwaseong, but also performance performances, lighting art using trees and trails, media-immersive experience zones, and citizen participation programs are prepared, providing more abundant and diverse attractions and enjoyment.
In particular, the light show that unfolds in the section from Hwaseomun to Janganmun combines the grandeur of the fortress and modern media art, providing an exotic sight!
I recommend that you experience the charm and art of light of Suwon Hwaseong at this special festival created by the meeting of historical space and cutting-edge technology.
The video performance that unfolds on the outer walls of the Hwaseong Haenggung building as a huge screen is really amazing.
In fact, many people think of the gorgeous city view when it comes to Suwon night view, but the Suwon Hwaseong night view, which is considered a hot place for Gyeonggi-do night view spots, has a slightly different charm.
The subtle lights that spread over the tranquil hanok and walls are very atmospheric.
It's also good for taking pictures, and it's perfect for taking a walk while slowly walking, so it's a place that many people visit as a date course for couples.
Photo zones are set up in various places at the Hwaseong Haenggung Night Opening.
The front yard of the king's office, the main gate traditional garden lit up with lights, and the surroundings of the pond are popular spots.
If you come wearing Hanbok, the photos will come out much better, so there were many people who actually rented Hanbok at the rental shop and came.
The indoor exhibition space had a quiet and elegant atmosphere.
The high ceiling and red pillars were so wonderful that I felt like I was on a time travel to the past while looking around the exhibition.
On one side, there were panels that introduced the excavation process of Suwon Hwaseong in detail, which helped to understand the historical background.
In the glass display case, the tile fragments and earthenware that were used at the time were displayed, allowing us to get a glimpse of the lives of the people of the Joseon Dynasty.
This Hwaseong Haenggung Night Opening Suwon Hwaseong Media Art Show was a wonderful night festival completed by the meeting of history, art, and modern technology!
The charm of being neat and grand during the day, and the splendor that is dyed in light and color at night... I recommend it to those who want to fully enjoy the Suwon night view because it is a place that has both faces.
Especially if you come during the Suwon Hwaseong Festival period, there are so many things to see and enjoy that you won't be enough even if you walk around all day.
If you want to enjoy history, night view, culture, and art at once, I recommend that you visit the Gyeonggi-do night view spot, Suwon Hwaseong night view this fall without hesitation!
It will definitely be a day when you think, 'Wow, I'm glad I came!'
